When it comes to choosing furniture, it’s hard to beat the selection, convenience, and user-friendly experience of shopping at Wayfair. From office chairs to beds, desks, and more, Wayfair has everything you could need when it comes to furniture–including protection plans.

Any time you purchase new furniture, it’s definitely an investment, so it’s important to make sure your purchases are protected in case an accident happens. When it comes to furniture pieces, scratches, dings, chips, and stains are almost impossible to avoid, so it’s important to make sure you’re prepared with coverage that works for you. While Wayfair offers a furniture protection plan, there’s a lot to think about when choosing a product protection plan to determine whether or not it’s the right option for you.

Mulberry Unlimited is another great option in the product protection market, giving you the option to cover all your furniture items and more under the same plan. For just $9.99 a month, you can rest easy knowing your furniture (and your wallet) is protected in case of spills, tears, accidents, and more.

Types of Wayfair protection plans

Unlike many companies who provide their own protection plan or offer their plans through a single provider, Wayfair has three protection plans with unique terms and conditions. None of the plans require deductibles, and your product plan coverage will begin when you purchase your plan. Here’s a quick overview of  each type of Wayfair protection plans, and what each of them covers:

Warrantech

Warrantech protection plans are the only Wayfair furniture plans that do not include coverage for accidental damage. This means that if you spill grape juice on your sofa, your puppy chews on your rug, or any other kind of accident happens, you’ll be on your own for the cost of repairing or replacing your furniture.

So what does a Warrantech protection plan cover? Essentially, the plan includes coverage for mechanical failures, manufacturer defects, and electrical issues that are not accident related. Besides excluding all accidental damage, damage from natural disasters, theft, and loss is excluded as well.

It’s also important to note that the coverage depends on whether or not you followed the guidelines in the manufacturer’s warranty, so if you purchase a Wayfair protection plan provided by Warrantech, it’s important to make sure that you comply with the manufacturer’s warranty.

Uniters

Uniters protection plans cover most accidental damage, such as rips, stains, chips, and dents, but coverage can be voided in the case of neglect, abuse, or if you fail to comply with the manufacturer’s warranty. If you choose to purchase a Uniters protection plan, it’s important to make sure you’re familiar with all of the terms and conditions associated with the manufacturer’s warranty. Additionally, coverage is void in the case of natural disasters.

For mattresses, Uniters requires you to use a Uniters BedGard mattress protector in order for your coverage to be honored. The Uniters protection plan includes coverage for cleaning, stain removal from normal use, and structural damage after the manufacturer’s warranty ends.

Allstate

While Allstate’s furniture plan does include coverage for accidental damage, the exact coverage depends on the type of product you’re insuring. Here’s a quick look at how it works:

  • Mattress protectors. Coverage for mattress protectors includes accidental stains (caused by either humans or pets) and coverage for manufacturer’s defects.
  • Area rugs. Area rug coverage includes accidental coverage for issues like stains, rips, tears, and burns.
  • Furniture (Both indoor and outdoor). Furniture has accidental coverage for common incidents such as rips, stains, broken hardware, and chips.

It’s also important to know that Allstate’s furniture plan excludes coverage for loss, theft, and anything that Allstate considers intentional damage.

Should you purchase a Wayfair furniture protection plan?

As you can see, there’s a lot to think about when deciding whether or not to purchase a Wayfair protection plan. Like most extended warranty plans, there are some drawbacks. Between navigating the many terms and conditions, being bound to keeping the terms of the manufacturer’s warranty, and having to deal with the long wait times, there is a better way to get the product protection you need.
